Toyota Recall
Toyota can build a safer car but it chose not to – putting profits over safety. Toyota has recalled millions of cars and temporarily halted sales and production because of sticking gas pedals that caused sudden accelerations. Toyota knew about this problem yet it took hundreds of accidents, countless injuries and several tragic deaths for it to take action. The only way to get Toyota to compensate those injured by its negligence and for it to build a safer car is to fight them in court and win.
Attorney Michael Morgenstern has fought Toyota and won. A jury told Toyota to pay his client, Prashant Kumar, $59.8 million, for the devastating injuries that Toyota caused. According to the Washington Post, “The Kumar verdict is thought to be the largest of its kind in the country.”
A car crash can change the life of an entire family. It should also change the way a company builds its cars.
Hopefully, one day car manufacturers will stop putting profits over safety. Until then, they must be brought to court and forced to accept responsibility.
